This past November marked the third anniversary of PT Do It Yourself.net. As a PT enthusiast, I developed this web site to provide other owners with a permanent repository of information related to operating, maintaining and or modifying their Cruisers.

Since it's inception, I have invested more than 4,000 hours into building and expanding the site, making it one of the most recognized and regarded DIY auto enthusiast sites online. Of course, I didn't do it alone; Mike has been there from the beginning volunteering his time and automotive expertise, and our guests have provided a good deal of support, which I have always appreciated.

From the onset, my intent was to provide content at no cost to our guests and at that time the expenses we incurred were acceptable and personally financed by me. What I did not anticipate, was the popularity and rapid growth of the site, which we have experienced since its inception. A byproduct of this growth is and continues to be increased operating expenses. To offset expenses I asked our guests to support our efforts by making an occasional purchase through our advertiser links if and when they benefited from the information found here. This voluntary effort has enjoyed mixed results, and I am grateful to those of you that have supported us in this manner. In most cases you enjoyed a discount with your purchase, and the residual income that we received has cumulatively helped to cover our operating expenses, which keep the site online.

Unfortunately, as of late, that has not been the case and I have been personally out-of-pocket for most of last year. During the last 39 months the site has continued to break attendance records each month, however lately guests seem more interested in the content, than in making purchases. I'm sure that there are a number of reasons why this has occurred, which I will not speculate on here, but the end result is continued growth and stagnating revenue. What we do and offer here has never been about money, but it's one thing to volunteer a considerable amount of your personal time, and quite another, to have to continually personally fund it.

Early on, I decided that the web site would stay online as long as it paid for itself, however now, after this massive investment of time and effort, the thought of shutting it down has been a bitter pill to accept. Consequently, for the last several months, while reworking the site, I have struggled over a course of action to resolve this dilemma. After much too much thought and anxiety, I have reluctantly decided on a compromise by offering two levels of service to our site guests.

We will continue to offer some free content, plus new features that I've added during my rework. The remainder of the site has been transformed into a fee based area, called the Pit area, which includes the bulk of the new and revised content. Owners who would like to access this area will be required to purchase an inexpensive annual Pit Pass subscription.

As we all know there is no such thing as a free lunch, or in this case a permanent free lunch. I was delighted to provide you with more than three years of free access to the site and I hope that you will continue to support us through this new initiative.

Pit area features, member perks, and subscription information can be reviewed here.

Thank you.
