Step # 1 - As we start on the PT, Gord removes all the parts in areas that are being painted, to ensure a factory look when the paint job is finished. After the parts are removed, the PT is wiped down with a grease remover before any sanding is done.
Step # 2 - Then Gord, goes over the areas that are to be painted with three grits of sand paper 500/800/1200. Adhesion is very important, so this is done carefully so that no spots are missed. The key to an awesome paint job is always in the preparation.
Step # 3 - After the preparation is complete the PT is masked, leaving the areas that are to be painted exposed. Now Mark prepares to start the layout on the first layer of flames.
Step # 4 - It is now six hours later, after masking the first set of flames. The color that Rose and the client selected, Lime Green Pearl, is applied to the PT. This will be the primary color of the flames.
Step # 5 - In this photo you can see that we extend the color under the hood, for a complete and professional look. Then it is ready to unmask, and in about 20 minutes we can start the next set of flames.
Step # 6 - The next day, Mark gets ready to layout the second set of flames. The second set of flames is labor intensive and will take 9 hours to mask out. With the second set, you must keep in mind the sequence of colors, and whether the colors are going over, or under each other.
Step # 7 - Once the masking is completed, we're ready for our next color. Rose has chosen a Green Gold Pearl, which is darker than the first color and toned differently. This will be our base color to the Lime Green Pearl flames.
Step # 8 - After all of the masking is removed, the PT is washed, cleaned and re-masked. Now, we get ready to apply the Clear Coats. Note - If Gary had wanted the flames to be pinstriped it would have been done before the Clear Coat is applied.
Step # 9 - After the Clear Coat has dried, then it's time to reassemble the PT, and clean it inside and out from bumper to bumper.
Step # 10 - We're just in time for a PT "Show and Shine," which is taking place in London, on Saturday. Gary arrived shortly from Toronto and said he would be more than pleased to take it to the show. What timing!
